“I look forward to working with like-minded Senators intent on restoring certainty to global markets by repealing Obamacare, repealing Dodd-Frank, simplifying the tax code and implementing legislation like the REINS act to end unchecked bureaucratic power grabs.”

SECOND AMENDMENT – As a Life Member of the NRA, I believe Congress should protect our Constitutional right to bear arms. I will never support gun control legislation that prevents law abiding citizens from owning guns. The right to self-defense is the right to life, it is not negotiable.
TRADITIONAL FAMILY – Strong families build strong societies. I have always believed that America’s national interest is protected by legislation that supports the traditional American family. The American family is in the cross hairs of societal change. I believe tax legislation that penalizes marriage and entitlement programs that promote irresponsible lifestyle choices encourage the breakdown of civic duty and civil society.
RIGHT TO LIFE – We have a sacred trust to protect those who cannot protect themselves. As a pro-life candidate, I strongly reject the use of taxpayer dollars to fund “planned parenthood” programs which sponsor abortions as a positive solution for unplanned pregnancy. As a leader of the conservative revolution in New Mexico, I realize that this single issue is perhaps the most divisive subject in the Republican Party. We must stand united in our opposition to abortion.
ENVIRONMENT – EPA power grabs and the cap and trade agenda are raising energy prices and killing projects like the Keystone XL pipeline which would have created tens of thousands of jobs. I believe it is mankind’s responsibility to be good stewards of the earth; however, I will actively oppose extreme environmental restrictions that place undue hardships on American businesses, workers and those on fixed incomes.
HEALTH CARE – I don’t believe Health Care should be addressed at the federal level. It is a personal issue, a family issue, a community issue, a state issue and that is the order in which it should be addressed. The Affordable Care Act, the unconstitutional, 2,500-page bill known as Obamacare must be repealed or thrown out by the courts. Never before has a piece of federal legislation required Americans purchase a good or service – it represents a gross violation of individual rights. To establish rationing and the access to care by committee is completely opposed to the right to life. As a U.S. Senator I will fight to restore the free market to American medicine.
ENERGY – Moratoriums on drilling, environmental extremism, the abuse of the endangered species act, climate change hysteria, punitive taxes on independent domestic producers and dependence on foreign energy have all led to an American economy in decline. This lack of stability and certainty in our markets has placed severe burdens on American families. Energy Independence guarantees a stable economy and is an essential element to restoring prosperity and security. The U.S. Congress needs to act decisively to place America on the path to Energy independence.
BORDER SECURITY – There are many federal laws relating to our border security that are not being enforced. As a strong proponent of the rule of law, I will work to ensure that our borders are secure and that those charged with its protection are fully resourced. If the federal government cannot or will not enforce the laws on the books, the power and funds necessary to enforce the laws should be turned over to the states.
NATIONAL SECURITY – I support a foreign policy which limits our involvement in the affairs of other nations. America’s National Security Strategy should accurately identify and address all threats, such as Islamic Radicalism, without concern for the diplomatic ramifications of naming an enemy of peace. That strategy should not aim to weaken the sovereignty of the United States with an eye towards joining an international community through treaty or aid; rather, it should always aim to strengthen America’s sovereignty in the face of an ever-shrinking world. Multiculturalism is a prescription for compromising America’s national interests not a national security solution.
WAR – The best deterrent to war is a strong military. The primary function of government is to provide for the common defense. In this function, as a U.S. Senator, before I vote for war, the national interests at stake must be clearly defined, the enemy in question must represent a present danger to those interests, and the objective of the mission must be total victory. To me, as a father and grandfather, as a vet, there is no such thing as an expendable American soldier. The men and women of America’s volunteer armed forces and their families deserve leaders in Washington that will not play politics with defense spending and will consider it a matter of honor to fully resource combat missions with the most advanced armor, weaponry, logistics, communications, intelligence assets and medical support available.
PROPERTY RIGHTS – Our Founding Fathers debated using the word “property” in place of “the pursuit of happiness.” Property is the product of our life’s labors and must be protected as fundamental to a free society. I believe the estate tax, or death tax, amounts to both taxation without representation and the theft of property. As a U.S. Senator, I will work to abolish the estate tax.
REGULATIONS – Washington has over-regulated and over-taxed America’s industries for decades. Last year it cost American businesses $2 Trillion to comply with federal red tape. It is time for the U.S. Congress to put a stop to the runaway bureaucracy spelled out in hundreds of thousands of pages of federal rules and regulations. I look forward to crafting and implementing legislation like the REINS Act to end power grabs by unelected bureaucrats.
STATES RIGHTS – I want to restore the Constitution as the Rulebook for our Nation. I believe the Constitution clearly limits the U.S. Congress to a set of specific and enumerated powers in Article 1 Section 8. The Tenth Amendment establishes the principle of federalism by reserving broad and undefined powers not granted to the Federal Government to the states. I believe power should be closer to the people. Restoring the proper balance between the federal and state governments, as envisioned by the Founders, is essential to achieving prosperity in America.
NATIONAL DEBT – When the next freshman class of Senators arrives in Washington in 2013, our National Debt will likely top $17 Trillion. Congress is literally in the process of mortgaging the future earnings of our grandchildren and the yet unborn. It’s official, Washington D.C. has a spending problem. In the Senate, I will stand firm against spending more than we take in and will push for legislation requiring a super majority vote to raise the debt ceiling.
BALANCED BUDGET – A Balanced Budget Amendment is essential to the restoration of a Constitutional Government. The outrageous national debt, chronic deficit spending and high taxation are all the result of a Federal Government which is taking on too many responsibilities. I believe a balanced budget amendment, which includes a super majority vote to increase taxes, will enhance individual liberty and restore the promise of prosperity to the citizens of the United States of America.
"With your help and contributions I will take our important message to Washington and restore the promise of prosperity to New Mexico and America."
